My husband and I viewed the DVD that I checked out at the library where I work. We were so impressed and understand that there is a ranch in Tuscon Az where we will be visiting the first week in September of this year. If possible we would like to visit the ranch with our daugther and her family. Can you give me some info on this?
Thanks,
Doris Conkey

Hi Jane, I have attended a couple of Backcountry Horsemen meetings and I hope some of your members can make it to the screening. Every range is not equal in size, resources or politics so each range and herd requires different solutions. Mare fertility via darting does seem to work well in smaller herd areas, like The Little Bookcliffs. I understand T.J. Holmes is working toward making that available to the Spring Creek herd. Solutions need to be continually explored and implemented for a reproductive animal, so even if all the land designated for the horses, in 1971 was restored to the herds, and even if no special interest groups vied for the resources of the land the horses would eventually multiply to numbers too great for land and water to support. Sometimes when we don't happen to have the solutions figured out, we think there are none. I believe we have to implement steps that change the current "un-management" of the herds that has led to a brutal and hopeless end for most of these beautiful and harmless creatures. I made this film to call upon people to join in the discovery of new ways of seeing the wild horses in relation to all of nature. We begin by examining our attitudes, getting involved, implementing new policies and practices that instead of pandering their habitat restores and expands it. As we instigate short term changes we also develop a long term plan for sustainability. The impact of 8 million privately owned cattle on the range does the most damage to all resources - but the cattle-men spin propaganda that blames the horses. They have also rid the land of natural predators furthering to imbalance a natural eco-system. Jonathan Ratner of Western Watersheds will present authenticated and current facts about what's the real problem behind the wild horse issue. Sorry you can't come to this screening event - there's likely to be another opportunity. Best to you, Thanks for caring. - Mara

Mara, I will not be in Durango next month, and would like to know what your film supports as to a solution to the wild horse population increase problem. Dealing with the mares' fertility is not working very well yet, and the horses keep having babies. What do you think can be done? I am the secretary of the Durango chapter of Backcountry Horsemen and we as a group are extremely interested in the Spring Creek herd.

Thank you for your input on this difficult question. I hope I hear from you.
Sincerely, Jane Robinson

Just watched the Wild Horses in Wind of Change and was appalled at the actions of the BLM. We need to get the government to change the rules here and abide by them also stop these self interest groups screwing up the planet.
The narrator got it right horses adapt to the environment, humans make the environment adapt to them, and this will be to our detriment for sure.

Wow, what a statement....elegant and disturbing at the same time. A potent combination.

Thank you so much for making this film, Mara LeGrand. May your heartfelt efforts pay off and make a change for our four-legged brothers and sisters.
